Una città avvolta improvvisamente da un buio assoluto che la trasforma in una notte eterna e senza speranza. Una boscaglia misteriosa che diventa impervio confine con la libertà, da attraversare come via di fuga da una vita opprimente, seguendo una guida dagli occhi di cervo.
Nei due racconti che compongono questo libro, La lunga notte e La partenza, Emerio Medina colloca i suoi personaggi in luoghi di Cuba di cui non conosciamo il nome. Metafore di una realtà distopica e oggettiva allo stesso tempo, tra percorsi inquietanti e incerti, in cerca di una salvezza che porta al Nulla, questi racconti ci immergono nella natura spettrale di una tenebra labirintica, in un viaggio denso di trappole ed enigmi, nella sensazione di essere separati dalla realtà convenzionalmente intesa.
Due storie esemplari che riguardano la sopravvivenza della specie umana, il suo adattamento a un futuro poco promettente e la sua probabile evoluzione.
