Uno strumento conoscitivo che si muove snello nella contorta storia della Palestina dalla dominazione turca ai nostri giorni, attraversando la lenta nascita del nazionalismo arabo, l’insediamento sionista, l’istituzione dello Stato di Israele, le varie guerre, i tentativi di pace, le Risoluzioni delle Nazioni Unite, il terrorismo, il militarismo degli ortodossi israeliani, per giungere all’impasse odierna in cui la distruzione è diventata feroce e umanamente intollerabile.
Il volume si ferma ai fatti accaduti entro agosto 2025, non dando notizia degli accordi di pace insperati, siglati nella recente notte tra il 9 e 10 ottobre.
Un libro, dunque, presenta i fatti in maniera diacronica, attinti da storici accademici di diverso orientamento (da Ilan Pappè, a Benny Morris, da Edward Said a Fulvio Scaglione…), per schematizzare avvenimenti e attori principali che hanno originato un disastro umanitario che i media hanno portato all’attenzione del pubblico internazionale; una narrazione, dunque, senza esprimere giudizi, demandati eventualmente ai lettori.
L’unico parere personale espresso dall’Autore proprio nelle battute finali è quello che la pace potrà sopraggiungere se si risolveranno: i problemi dei campi profughi e di un popolo apolide; dei villaggi distrutti; del mancato riconoscimento reciproco del diritto ad avere una Patria, per i cui sarà necessario «che si abbandoni la logica militare e la strategia del terrore, e le Nazioni Unite essere capaci di delimitare i confini, insediare governi e istituzioni per l’autogoverno e presidiare che ciò permanga, contro mire espansionistiche che non hanno giustificazione e fomentano guerra, disagio e disperazione».
