Che ci fa un orecchio in giro senza la sua testa? Qual è il suo posto nel mondo?
Un albo illustrato e scritto da Piret Raud, la più nota autrice estone per bambini, una storia surreale e irresistibile sull’importanza di saper ascoltare e sul valore dell’amicizia.
Mentre l’Orecchio si dispera e si domanda piagnucolando come potrà vivere d’ora in avanti, lo raggiunge una rana che ha tanta voglia di cantare per qualcuno, anche se la sua voce è brutta e rauca. L’Orecchio, che ha una natura gentile, ascolta il canto della rana, che si sente subito sollevata. Anche lui è di colpo più allegro. L’Orecchio realizza proprio in quel momento che può far star bene gli altri (e sé stesso) semplicemente facendo quel che gli riesce meglio: ascoltare!
La rana dalla voce rauca è infatti solo la prima di una lunga lista di personaggi che vorranno incontrare il “miglior ascoltatore di tutto il regno”: un elefante nostalgico finito molto lontano da casa, una lepre un po’ troppo golosa, altre creature di ogni tipo che non vedranno l’ora di conoscere il paziente Orecchio!
Con il suo mondo onirico e assurdo, che rimanda all’ironia e alle atmosfere fiabesche di Nikolaj Gogol’, Piret Raud arricchisce le tavole di elementi che incuriosiscono e ci lascia sbirciare nell’immaginario visivo del suo Paese, tra eleganti geometrie e buffi animali.
Ma non tutto quel che esce dai pennelli di Raud appartiene al regno della fantasia: la storia dell’orecchio che vive una vita propria è infatti ispirata alla vicenda di Vincent Van Gogh, che si tagliò un orecchio in un momento di rabbia e disperazione.
Il ritratto dell’artista e alcuni dettagli dei suoi capolavori più celebri fanno capolino nelle pagine dell’albo, coinvolgendo i lettori in un attento gioco di osservazione. I bambini potranno inoltre divertirsi a trovare l’Orecchio nascosto e camuffato in mille forme, tra le ali di una farfalla o a mo’ di guscio di chiocciola, a simboleggiare la crisi d’identità attraversata dal protagonista.
