Tutto ha inizio da un regalo consegnato a una bambina di nome Emilia. Un regalo insolito, una pietra trovata sulla collina di Hissarlik, dove venne scoperta Troia… Alcuni doni possono determinare il corso di una vita. Possono dirci chi siamo, come gli antichi oracoli e come le superfici d’acqua.
Grazie alla pietra “magica”, Emilia comincia a fare dei sogni straordinari, notte dopo notte rivive la storia del grande archeologo tedesco Heinrich Schliemann, il “ragazzo dal mare negli occhi”, dalla sua infanzia in un paese popolato da strane leggende al naufragio sulle coste dell’isola di Texel, dall’impresa come commerciante di indaco fino ai suoi scavi seguendo le orme di Omero.
Accompagnata nel viaggio onirico da cicogne, colombe, civette e da tanti altri animali-guardiani, la ragazzina sorvola le antiche rovine di Troia, di Micene e Tirinto, vede brillare il mitico tesoro di Priamo e arriva fino a Pompei, l’ultima città che Schliemann conosce prima di morire facendo quel che più amava: immergersi nella Storia, nel sapere e nella conoscenza.
