L’opera è divisa in quattro sezioni, ognuna corrispondente a una stagione e ognuna contenente tre poesie ispirate da libri di Calvino. Si inizia dall’inverno della guerra e della fatica, la stagione fredda dell’umanità che nasconde però, dietro la fitta pioggia dell’incipit di Se una notte d’inverno un viaggiatore, tutta la bellezza del mondo pronta a sbocciare in primavera, quando si può “riscrivere il cielo con inchiostro di rondini” attraversando la trilogia fantastica de I nostri antenati. Arriva poi l’estate dei desideri e del riposo, con opere come Fiabe italiane, Le Cosmicomiche e Ti con zero, capaci di aprirci a nuovi mondi con leggerezza, per finire con l’autunno, il periodo della semina, che darà il via, con la proverbiale calma di Palomar, a un nuovo ciclo.
La struttura stessa del volume è “calviniana”, riprendendo il telaio di parole e concetti in evidenza che sorregge le famose Lezioni americane, mentre la selezione delle opere citate ripercorre il personale avvicinamento di Porcella all’autore.
